Overview: The Athenians attempted a complex three-prong invasion of Boeotia in 424 BC. The Athenian commander Hippocrates captured and fortified the town of Delium. The Boeotians consolidated their forces under the general Pagondas and attacked the Athenian army. After the two armies engaged and the Boeotians routed the Athenians after Pagondas sent two cavalry squandrons around to attack from the rear. The Boeotians then recaptured Delium.
