[1]The 7th Armored Division fought from August 1944 until V-E Day, coming ashore on the Normandy beaches and reaching all the way to the Baltic Sea.
Aug - Sep 44: France, including Chartres, Melun, Verdun and Metz (under Patton)
Sep - Nov 44: thru Belgium to Holland, including Overloon and Meijel (under Montgomery)
early Dec 44: Germany, at and near Ubach
mid-Dec 44 - Jan 45: Belgium: St. Vith, Poteau, Vielsalm, Manhay (Battle of the Bulge)
early Feb 45: Germany, near Simmereth and Roer Dams
late Feb 45: Belgium, repairing roads near Stavelot and Elsenborn; HQ remained near Simmereth
March 45: Germany, area of Mehlem and Bad Godesburg on west bank of Rhine River
late March 45: Germany, encirclement of Ruhr Pocket along south and east
early April 45: Germany, reduction of Ruhr Pocket
late April 45: Germany, north to the Baltic
May 45: Germany: meet the Russians; V-E Day
June - early July 45: Germany, occupational duties in Dessau and K?then by the Elbe
July 45: Germany, occupational duties
move to the U.S. Zone of occupied Germany
large contingent of low-point men departs July 14 via train to ship home August 1 on Montclair Victory for re-training with 44th Infantry Division for invasion of Japan
many high-point men transferred to other units for earlier transport home; many new men transferred into Division
October 45: Returned to United States and Inactivated
Early 1950's: Division reactivated during Korean War: at Camp Roberts, CA but never went overseas; Division again inactivated
