Almax II (American Motor Boat, 1912)

Almax II, a 56?-foot motor boat, was built in 1912 at Salisbury, Maryland, for use as a pleasure craft. In May 1917 she was acquired by the Navy and placed in commission as USS Almax II (SP-268). For the rest of World War I, and for some months after the November 1918 Armistice, she served on patrol duties in the vicinity of Hampton Roads, Virginia. Almax II was transferred to the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Servey in late March 1919. Returned to the Navy in February 1920, she was sold the following August.

1942: A British ship, the HMS Capbeltown, a Lend-Lease American destroyer, which was specifically rammed into a German occupied dry-dock in France, explodes, knocking the area out of action for the German battleship Tirpitz.
