USS Asher J. Hudson, a 136-ton iron steam tug and minesweeper, was originally a civilian harbor tug of the same name. Built at Camden, New Jersey in 1891, she was taken over by the Navy in July 1918 at New Orleans, Louisiana, and placed in commission the following month as a minesweeper. During the remaining months of World War I, she conducted regular sweeps for possible German mines at the the Mississippi River's mouth. In December 1918, Asher J. Hudson was reassigned to district tug service. She was classified as YT-37 in July 1920 and renamed Yuma in November of that year. The tug sank at New Orleans Naval Station in October 1920. Though raised, Yuma was decommissioned in March 1921 and sold the following August. She then returned to civilian tug employment, under her original name, and operated in Louisana and Texas waters until about 1963.
