USS Bancroft (1893-1906)

USS Bancroft, a 839-ton gunboat built at Elizabethport, New Jersey, was commissioned in March 1893. She served as a U.S. Naval Academy practice ship as well as a gunboat, and participated in Spanish-American War operations off Cuba. In June 1906, Bancroft was transferred to the Treasury Department. Renamed USRC Itaska, she served as a Revenue Service (U.S. Coast Guard after 1915) Cutter until sold in May 1922.
