USS Egret, a coastal minesweeper, was converted from the civilian fishing vessel Julia Eleanor, which the Navy acquired in November 1940. Placed in service in June 1941 she had three years' operations in the 4th Naval District and the Potomac River before being reclassified IX-181 in July 1944. She stricken from the Navy list in February 1946 and transferred to the U.S. Maritime Commission in June of that year.
