USS Fillmore, a 4,247-ton Gilliam-class attack transport, was built at Wilmington, California, and commissioned in February 1945. She left the West Coast in April and carried men and cargo to and between Espiritu Santo, Samra, Biak, Humboldt Bay, Ulithi, and Pearl Harbor. Returning to San Francisco in July, she delivered troops to Leyte in August and remained there as receiving ship until the Japanese surrender.

Fillmore embarked troops and equipment at various points in the Philippines for the occupation of northern Honshu and delivered them to Aomori, Japan, in September. She then carried out a "Magic Carpet" voyage, returning servicemen from Japan, Saipan, and Guam to San Francisco in October 1945. She then carried occupation troops to Korea. Returning to San Francisco in January 1946, she commenced preparations for use as a target for the Bikini atomic bomb tests. Not significantly damaged or contaminated by radiation during the tests, she re-embarked her crew at the end of July. Fillmore moved to Kwajalein in August, and after further radiological monitoring and study, she returned to San Francisco in November 1946. She sailed for Norfolk in December and was decommissioned there in January 1947. Fillmore was transferred in April 1948 to the Maritime Commission for retention in its reserve fleet and was sold by them in September 1966 for scrapping.
