USS Katahdin (1896-1909)

USS Katahdin, a 2155-ton armored ram, was built at Bath, Maine, and commissioned in February 1896. She had brief periods of active service, including Spanish-American War coast-defense duty in the western Atlantic. Katahdin was struck from the Navy List in July 1909 and converted to an experimental target ship. She was sunk by gunfire the following September.
