Military Quotes

You must love soldiers in order to understand them, and understand them in order to lead them.

Knickerbocker, a 123 gross ton steam harbor tug, was built at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1873 and rebuilt in 1904. After leasing her in May 1917, the Navy purchased her outright and placed her in commission in September of that year as USS Knickerbocker (SP-479). Thereafter, she was assigned to minesweeping, towing and dispatch duties in the New York Harbor area. Her disposal was ordered in March 1918, but this was rescinded a month later as a shortage of tugs required that she remain in service. USS Knickerbocker was sold in February 1919.
