Military Quotes

I yield to no man in sympathy for the gallant men under my command; but I am obliged to sweat them tonight, so that I may save their blood tomorrow.

USS LST-1110, a 2366-ton LST-511 class tank landing ship, was built at Evansville, Indiana. Commissioned in March 1945, she provided logistics services in the Pacific during the remaining months of World War II. In September and October 1945, LST-1110 supported the occupation of Japan. Returning to the United States in early 1946, she operated along the U.S. west coast during the later 1940s and into the 1950s, making several Arctic logistics support cruises from 1949 to 1957. She also deployed twice to the Far East, in 1953-54 and in 1954-55. LST-1110 was renamed San Bernardino County (LST-1110) in July 1955. In August 1958, she was decommissioned and transferred to the Republic of China. Under the name Chung Chiang, she served in that nation's navy until 1993, when she was discarded.
