Oneida, a 552 gross ton steam yacht, was built at Wilmington, Delaware, in 1897. Twenty years later, in July 1917 she was ordered taken by the U.S. Navy for World War I service in foreign waters and was given the identification number SP-432. However, this plan was not carried out and Oneida remained in private hands.
