Patchogue, a 135 gross ton steam ferryboat, was built at City Island, New York, in 1912. Purchased by the Navy for World War I service, she was delivered in September 1917 and entered service as USS Patchogue (ID # 1227). Employed for nearly four years as a ferry at the New London Submarine Base, Connecticut. She was classified as YFB-1227 in 1920 and in June 1921 was transferred to the 4th Naval District, presumably for use in the Delaware River and Delaware Bay area. USS Patchogue was sold in June 1922.
