USS Patrol # 6, a 61-foot motor patrol boat, was built in 1916 at Neponset, Massachusetts, as a civilian pleasure craft. Originally named Bonita, she was renamed Patrol # 6 when her owner affiliated her with the national "Preparedness" program that preceded the United States' entry into World War I. The Navy purchased the craft in June 1917 and placed her in commission later in that month. For the rest of World War I, and beyond, she was employed by the Second Naval District for operations in the waters of southern New England. Patrol # 6 was stricken from the Navy list in November 1919 and sold in March 1921.
