USS Direct, a 295-ton Adroit class minesweeper, was built at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was commissioned in August 1942 and served on antisubmarine patrol and escort duty out of Bermuda from late December 1942 until April 1944. She then began conversion to a submarine chaser. In June 1944, as this work neared completion, she was renamed and redesignated PC-1594.

PC-1594 crossed the Atlantic and entered the Mediterranean Sea in July 1944. The next month she participated in the Southern France invasion, and performed convoy and patrol duties between Italy and North Africa through the end of the European War in May 1945. PC-1594 then returned to the United States, where she was decommissioned in November 1945. Stricken from the Navy Register at that time, she was turned over to the Maritime Commission and sold in July 1946.
