USS Percival, a 1190-ton Clemson class destroyer built at San Francisco, California, was commissioned at the beginning of March 1920. Four months later, when the Navy implemented its hull number system, she was designated DD-298. For the next decade, Percival mainly operated in the Pacific, taking an active part in Battle Fleet maneuvers. She barely escaped being wrecked during the 8 September 1923 Honda Point disaster, and a few days later became flagship of Destroyer Squadron ELEVEN, which had lost seven of its ships, including the previous flagship, in the incident. USS Percival was decommissioned in April 1930, as a result of the limitations imposed by London Naval Treaty. She was scrapped in 1931.
