USS Pete, a 29-foot motor patrol boat, was built prior to World War I at Kingston, Massachusetts, as a civilian pleasure craft. Chartered by the Navy in April 1917, she was employed in New England waters until returned to her owner in March 1918.

1941: The British sink five Italian warships off the Peloponnesus coast in the Mediterranean.

1942: British cruiser Trinidad torpedoes itself in the Barents Sea.

1942: German submarine U-585 sinks.
