USS PT-564, an experimental 70-foot motor torpedo boat, was built by Higgins Industries, New Orleans, Louisiana. Nicknamed the "Hellcat", she was placed in service in September 1943 and based at Miami, Florida. Throughout her Navy career, PT-564 served along the U.S. east coast, running tests of her own features and those of weapons mounted on board. Placed out of service in February 1946, PT-564 was sold in July 1948.
