USS Queens, a 13,200-ton attack transport of the Windsor class, was built at Sparrows Point, Maryland, and commissioned in December 1944. She carried troops and cargo in the Pacific during 1945, participating in the Iwo Jima operation and in the Occupation of Japan. Queens was decommissioned in June 1946, and transferred to the War Shipping Administration. She thereafter became the merchant ship Excambion and the Texas Maritime Academy's training ship Texas Clipper. She was still in existence in 1998.
