San Joaquin, a 1551 gross ton schooner barge, was built at Freeport, Maine, in 1876 as a commercial sailing vessel. She was purchased by the Navy during World War I and placed in service as USS San Joaquin in August 1918. She was subsequently employed by the Naval Overseas Transportation Service to carry coal between Norfolk, Virginia, and New England. In late March 1919, the barge was assigned to the Fifth Naval District for local duty in the vicinity of Norfolk. Stricken from the Navy list in June 1919, San Joaquin was sold in September 1919.
