USS Sayona II, a 60' 6" patrol boat, was built in 1907 at Crosby, Massachusetts, for use as a pleasure craft. Named Tip Top and Sayona II during the next decade, in July 1917 she was leased by the Navy and placed in service in August. For the rest of World War I, the boat operated in the vicinity of Hampton Roads, Virginia. She was returned to her owner in late December 1918.
