USS Tacony (1864-1868)

USS Tacony, a 974-ton Sassacus class "Double-Ender" side-wheel gunboat, was built at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Pennsylvania. Commissioned in February 1864, she was en route to the Gulf of Mexico when her orders were changed, diverting her to the North Carolina Sounds. On 31 October 1864, while serving in that area, she participated in the capture of Plymouth, N.C. Tacony next was involved in the December 1864 and January 1865 assaults on Fort Fisher, N.C. Following blockade duty during the rest of the Civil War, she generally remained active until her final decommissioning in October 1867. USS Tacony was sold in Autust 1868.
