Veendijk, a 6874 gross ton freighter built in 1914 at Sunderland, England, was employed commercially by the Holland-America Steamship Line until March 1918, when she was seized by the United States Government. She was turned over to the Navy and, in early April, placed in commission as USS Veendijk (ID # 2515). As a unit of the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, she completed three round-trip voyages to France before the 11 November 1918 Armistice ended World War I fighting. During late 1918 and the first half of 1919 Veendijk made another trip to France and one to Uruguay. Decommissioned in August 1919, she was returned to her owner later in that month. The Holland-America Line continued to use her until 1933, after which she was apparently discarded.
