Vergana, a 147-foot steam yacht, was built in 1897 at Newberg, New York. Later taken to the West Coast, she was reportedly delivered to the Navy in early May 1917, though her first Commanding Officer reported on board a few weeks before. Placed in commission in July 1917 as USS Vergana (SP-519), she performed guard and patrol duty in San Francisco Bay for the rest of World War I. Vergana went out of commission in January 1919 and was sold in April 1922.
