Constituted 1 April 1982 in the Regular Army as Company A, 160th Aviation Battalion, and activated at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as an element of the 101st Airborne Division

(160th Aviation Battalion relieved 16 October 1986 from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division)

Reorganized and redesignated 16 January 1988 as Company A, 160th Aviation

Reorganized and redesignated 16 May 1990 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 160th Aviation (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
