Operation Provide Transition

12 August - 9 October 92: A 78-person contingent (76 from USAFE and two from Air Mobility Command) and three 435th Airlift Wing C-130 Hercules deployed from Rhein-Main to Luanda, Angola. The aircraft relocated government and rebel soldiers during Operation Provide Transition, a multinational United Nations effort to support democratic elections following 16 years of civil war in Angola. The Hercules flew 326 sorties, carrying 8,805 passengers and 265 tons of cargo during the operation.

Between 24 September and 07 October 1991 USEUCOM joint task force Quick Lift deployed French and Belgian troops to Zaire and evacuated 716 people following a mutiny by army troops there.
