A surprise attack in November that left seven Spanish officers dead prompted the launch of Operation Panther Squeeze on December 10, 2003. The operation, executed by the 82nd Airborne Division and Iraqi Police, was a series of 18 raids in Latifiya targeting those believed to be responsible for the attack.

Centcom announced the raids resulted in the capture of 15 primary targets with a total of 41 enemy personnel.
