The New Haven (Casad) Depot consists of approximately 268 acres of land owned by the federal government. The entrance to the Depot is located on the north side of Dawkins Road (State Route 14), approximately three miles (4.8 km) east of New Haven, Indiana. There are 29 different types of materials stored at the Depot,including chrome ore, lead, tin, copper, zinc, nickel, graphite, rubber, and mercury. There are approximately 557 metric tons (614 tons)of mercury stored in 16,151 steel flasks. Entrance to the Depot is controlled by security guards and an eight-foot high fence topped with three-stranded barbed wire.
