Robinson Barracks(129 total words in this text)(3489 Reads)  Robinson is undoubtedly the most scenic of the four posts in Stuttgart. It and the Grenadier housing area command a great view of Stuttgart. The hill was originally an agricultural area, and although the fields are gone the vineyards still contribute to fine local wines. In the 1930s, infantry regiments moved into the new posts, training at the foot of the hill where apartment buildings stand today. Immediately after the war, Robinson was a camp for refugees and internees. Today Robinson is primarily a housing area. However, families will find an elementary school, a library, a movie theater and the only combined Post Exchange and commissary in Europe, the CX, which also stocks a variety of furniture and the 4-Seasons and Toy store. |

Admiral David Farragut captures New Orleans a day after his fleet successfully sailed past two Confederate forts on the Mississippi River.

Germany is, for all intents and purposes, Allied territory. 1952: After a three day fight against Chinese Communist Forces, the Gloucestershire Regiment is annihilated on "Gloucester Hill," in Korea. 1972: Hanois 320th Division drives 5,000 South Vietnamese troops into retreat and traps about 2,500 others in a border outpost northwest of Kontum in the Central Highlands. |
