Camp Sarafovo
Camp Sarafovo is normally used by Bulgarian military officers as a recreational camp during the summer months, since it is set right on a small beach.

Task Force Bourgas was established in November 2000. It is commanded and controlled by the 29th Support Group in Kaiserslautern, but consists of soldiers and civilians from many different units. This task force conducted three separate operations out of Camp Sarafovo since February 2001, and has the mission to move hundreds of pieces of equipment, vehicles, aircraft and soldiers from Bulgaria to Camp Able Sentry in Macedonia, which directly supports the US forces in Kosovo.

The task force has many responsibilities. They include loading and unloading the inbound and outbound unit?s equipment onto ships; providing security and transportation to inbound and outbound GIs from the Sofia International Airport to the Macedonia border; establishing refueling and maintenance sites throughout Bulgaria for the inbound and outbound helicopters flying to and from Bourgas and Camp Able Sentry; providing tactical communications for command and control at the operations center in Bourgas; and providing security for equipment when needed. It transits several countries by rail.

At the height of the operation in October and November 2001, Task Force Bourgas had more than 250 people on the ground. In October 2001 the 29th Support Group from Kaiserslautern, Germany set up at Camp Sarafovo, outside of Bourgas, Bulgaria to support the arrival of a ship carrying helicopters from 10th Mountain Division and then the departure of 101st Airborne Divison helicopters on another ship. The helicopters were unloaded from a ship. They were completely covered with white shrinkwrap and many of them had their blades removed. Despite being completely covered, thir silhouettes were distinctly those of helicopters. They were moved to an open area and to hangars, where they were unwrapped, reassembled, balanced, and tested.
