Yechon (Yecheon) Air Base
37?38'N, 128?21'E
Yechon is located in a valley at an elevation of 354 feet (108 meters). The Naesong Chon (River), flowing west to east, is about 4 miles (7 km) south of Yechon. This river can provide an additional moisture for fog and cloud formation. Hills and mountains cover about 75 percent of the Korean peninsula, with the remainder covered by scattered lowlands. Most of the rivers are short, swift, and shallow due to topography, narrowness, and sand deposits within the river. The base is surrounded by fairly low rugged hills within 4-5 miles (7-9 km). Elevations are in the range of 500-700 feet (152-213 meters). About 20-25 miles (37-46 km) west is the Sobaek Range, which forms a north-south interior divide on the Korean peninsula. These mountains have a general elevation of 3,500 feet (1,067 meters).
