Allen Army Airfield
US Army Alaska (USARAK) provides aviation support, operates, and maintains Allen Army Airfield at Fort Greely. The Allen Army Airfield, presently owned and operated by the US Army, is about three miles south of Delta Junction. Three UH-1 helicopters are assigned for support purposes and are equipped for winter operations with skiis and auxiliary exhaust heaters. Their first mission priority is test support.

Allen Army Airfield is an uncontrolled airfield jointly used by both military and civilian aircraft. Airfield Operations provides full flight plan facilities and communications on FM between the hours of 0700 and 1900. The City of Delta Junction and the United States Army (USA) have developed a MOU and Lease agreement for joint use of Allen Army Airfield. The lease and MOU are based on a successful lease at Gray AAF, Killeen, Texas.

There are three paved, active runways complemented by a 37,600 square foot hangar dedicated solely to military aircraft. The hangar can accommodate rotary wing aircraft as large as a CH-47. Approximately 920,000 square feet of ramp space is available for military/test aircraft operations. The primary airside and landside support facilities are on the southern side and consist of taxiways, aircraft parking, helipads, hangars and support facilities. All the airfield operational areas are paved.

Two runways are lighted and maintained for year-around use and there are VOR and NDB approaches to one with a VASI on the approach end. The existing airfield consists of three runways, two of which are currently operational. The NE/SW runway is 7,500 feet long and 150 feet wide. The NW/SW runway is 6,100 feet long and 150 wide. The runways can accommodate heave cargo aircraft, up to and including the C141 throughout the entire year. From December to April, the runways can accommodate any aircraft, including the C5A. The east side taxi strip is closed off in the winter and the pavement is flooded to provide a controlled ice surface for vehicle handling and breaking tests.

Currently, a masterplan for the shared use of Allen Army Airfield is being developed by ASCG, Incorporated. Commercial aviation, light aircraft maintenance, avionics repair and utilizing Allen Army Airfield as a staging area for mining exploration interests in the region are included in this design.
