I served under the command of LT Gerald Crowe. I was attached to Alpha company and our first deployment was to the tiny atoll of Diego Garcia where we constructed a 1/4 mile runway as well as a more powerful radio station. We, NMCB-1 almost always followed NMCB-54 out of Gulfport Miss. Following that deployment, I was TAD to the 1 U.S. Air force, 131st bomb wing involved in the bombing of North Vietnam. PO-2 Joe Diamond was our supervison. Upon states side I was less than 3 months from date of discharge and was left behind when the battlion deployed to Rota, Spain. I was assigned to the 4 to Midnight shift at the headquarters of the 21st Naval Regiment. I was an EO-3 class petty officer and finished my 4 year service as Corporal of the Guard position at the 21st Naval regiment. If anyone remembers me and can direct me to find LT Crowe, I would very much like to talk to him.
