World War II [2]
May 6, Austria

Dear Dad,
Being in such a jubilant mood I must drop a few lines. Today I got you a Luger. Yes man! And it's a honey! The only regret I have is I didn't personally relieve a Kraut of it as I did a pair of binoculars a few days ago.
He really was a veteran, wearing the Polish campaign badge when I jumped him. They aren't bad glasses but they are a bit worn. I swapped a camera for the Luger. It's a 1938 model and in swell condition. Last night we slept in a building built in 900 A.D. but that didn't make the floor any softer. These last few days all I have been seeing are Jerry trucks and Jerries coming in to surrender. Half the time no one is guarding them. They're given directions to the nearest prisoner of war cages and off they go--some even have their wives with them. Haven't been able to latch on to any good shot guns or deer rifles. I'm waiting to find a German sniper's rifle. Have you received the 2 guns I sent?

Wonderful country, Pop! Too bad you were to old for this war!

Why couldn't I have had just one war to win!! Remember me to tell you about my search for a pistol with a Frenchman.

Love, Jack-son
