GALLERY IX - THE FINAL CHAPTER
As
visitors enter this gallery they will be presented with impression they
are standing atop the US Embassy awaiting helicopter evacuation from
Saigon. The events from the signing of the peace treaty marking
the end of US combat operations in Vietnam, to the fall of Saigon on
April 30, 1975 will be examined in depth.
The
US withdrawal, the 1972 "Easter Offensive," the provisions
of the treaty that left communist forces in place in South Vietnam,
and US political actions that led to the military conquest of the South
will be presented to the visitors in a historical context.
Also
addressed will be a description of how the term Vietnam has become associated
with a failed political agenda, and whether that comparison is justified
in light of the current world situation.
