Default Leaving on a jetplane, dont know when..

So long for now. I?m taking up digs in Budapest, Hungary, for quite a while and then in Quezon Province , Luzon, PI, for some more projects. Don?t know what the Internet situation will be, but I?ll see if can get back for some more search and annoy missions here from time-to-time. Ha, the Communist?s ?New Peoples Army? is real busy shooting up Quezon Province these days so that may be like old home week, but I?ll stay away from the flail this time around, methinks.

Salute, all

Default Bill

Get yourself armed when you get to PI. When I was there last year coming back from Nam, we had an 8hr. lay-over. Decided to go into Manila. The place looked like Nam back in the day. Armed police on every corner; every 7-11 had a security guard rent-a-cop packing a sawed-off shotgun and a .357 Mag. I felt more naked unarmed there than I did in Nam. The place was nastier looking than Nam, too.

Bring us up to speed first chance you get, and BE CAREFUL. It's not just the Commies there. Like the rest of the world, you have to watch out for the, "our religion is based on peace and kindness," Muslims.

Will be looking forward to hearing from you, my friend.

Scamp you can't stop in Olongapo any more, they shut down all the bars, still think you can go to Maralyns in Subic. Enjoy your trip bro.

Thanks Tom. And Yup, I?ve made arrangements and will have a supposedly ?new condition? 1911 .45 waiting. We?ll see what ?new condition? means when I get there. I?ll be north east of Lucena City mostly and no Moslems to worry about in those parts. But the CPPI New Peoples Army is active in the area, so I?ll just have to keep that in mind and not become a burr under their blanket. They?re quite happy to collect ?revolutionary taxes? from gringos that come to their attention and more or less let it go at that, maybe.
The PI Marines are all over them on a continuous basis and I expect they will be asking for some form of gratuity as well. The beat goes on, eh.

Thanks Robert. Will be going to a power plant near Subic Bay for a couple of days. Olongapo is no longer the place it used to be, but for old time's sake, I'll take a look and have a stroll down Magsaysay drive. Just to look, right. :re:

Scamp :

Be careful. Try to post once in awhile, if you can. You will be missed.

May God Bless,

frisco-kid,

When I was in the PI in '71, some Marines on R&R decided to return to 'Nam early saying that there they at least could carry guns to defend themselves. Tough town, Angeles City.

Default Szia Buapestrol

Found ya?ll at the Internet caf?. Office set up is at the Duna Plaza in north Budapest and my home digs are now near Ferencick tere (square) in south Budapest, about a block from the Duna (Danube) river. Connecting the two is the Metro subway ?Blue Line? so that?s great. Ha, never thought this Nevada hayseed would be commuting to work on a subway but it?s cool. Sorry to report that the Danube isn?t blue at all, gray-green is more like it, so I guess the song lyrics were just more spin after all.

Lot?s of history here and being a hopeless museum nut, I expect I?ll turn up in some Budapest museum lost-and-found somewhere along the way. This weekend I?ll be going to ?Statue Park? and that will be special. When the Soviet Communist dictatorship/domination ended, all the statues, plaques, etc.; hundreds and hundreds of items, were removed from the streets of Budapest and now form an outdoor museum. They are all there; Lenin, Marx, Engels, Dimitrov, scores and scores of supposed ?martyrs?, etc. Maybe viewing the Communist artifacts will provide a bit more closure, we?ll see. Now if I just had me one of them Psycho Vet hats I would surely wear it whilst touring the outdoor museum. Now that?s what I call closure, for sure.
