![]() Murphy, Skelton airlifted to Landstuhl after wreck
By Steve Mraz, Stars and Stripes Mideast edition, Tuesday, November 29, 2005 LANDSTUHL, Germany ? One U.S. congressman has been released and another is being treated at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center after suffering injuries when a military vehicle the men were in crashed on its way to the Baghdad airport Saturday. Following treatment, Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., left Landstuhl Regional Medical Center early Monday afternoon on a flight back to the United States, said Marie Shaw, Landstuhl spokeswoman. Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., remains under care at the hospital. Skelton, 73, is doing just fine, said Lara Battles, Skelton?s press secretary. ?I?ve been told he?s doing very well,? said Battles during a phone interview from Washington. The congressmen were admitted to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center around 11 a.m. Sunday, Shaw said. The men were airlifted to Germany from Iraq. Murphy, 53, told CNN he underwent an MRI at Landstuhl. The congressmen were traveling in an armored vehicle convoy when an oncoming truck did not yield. The vehicle the congressmen were traveling in hit something, flipped in the air and landed on its side. Just before the accident, the congressmen had met with Army Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the top U.S. commander in Iraq.
