![]() FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONTACT:
July 27, 2006 Eric Fehrnstrom (617) 725-4025 STATEMENT OF GOVERNOR ROMNEY ON CHAIRMAN AMORELLO?S RESIGNATION Today I received the resignation of Matthew Amorello as Chairman and member of the board at the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. I want to express my appreciation to Matt Amorello for voluntarily stepping down. His resignation will allow us to avoid a costly and protracted legal effort to remove him, and allow the Turnpike Authority to move forward through this challenging period with the confidence of the public. As I?ve said in the past, I?m not here to assign blame for what happened with the fatal ceiling collapse on July 10th. But that tragic event made it abundantly clear that business-as-usual at the Turnpike Authority had to change. A new era of reform and accountability has begun. Patronage will be replaced by professionalism, and secrecy will be replaced by openness. The next chairman will be someone with the requisite experience and qualifications to run a large complex enterprise. It will not be a slot for someone looking to cash in on political connections. There is a lot more to be done. First and foremost, we need to ensure that the Big Dig tunnel system is safe. But today represents a crucial turning point. |

...the "Guillotine" has to fall,... ... however, what was/is with the design, and engineers who have the "degrees" of which they stand for,... ...I mean, someone/ everyone involved put their stamp of approval on the plans, where was the failure, design, or implementation of it, faulty materials, not the right re-bar, wrong placement of the re-bar/ wrong PSI strength of the cement, how was the ball dropped where this guy being/at the top of the hill took the fall,... ... ..I haven't followed the issue that close, do know a section fell, and a fatality did occur,... ...

What then, they going to jack hammer that calamity out, begin again and do a proper job of it? At a cost $ 14+ billion and 5X over original budget, there should be no issues with sub-standard materials or inherent workmanship defects, right? But at last look, the concrete contractor for the entire project is being criminally prosecuted for supplying sub-standard materials. :ek: n' gulp, makes ya want to go for a driving tour of the Big Dig tunnel system, huh. ![]() I drove in those states one time, From Exxon headquartes In NJ to Chysler Building in NY. Im sorry it cost $3.00 to go over the bridge and $3.00 to get out of NY.
They will have to pay me $30.00 to come back to NY. NJ , around EXXON wasn't bad at all, I don't know how well this is an example of NJ, But it was nice. Its been about 10 years sence I was there. Ron |

![]() Unfortunately, MA state government is rife with corruption and nepotism. Just donate enough money to a politician's coffers and you guarentee yourself a a good, no-show state job that will reap an excellent pension and disability payments when the employee "injures" himself/herself on the job. That damned Big Dig already costs more then the Anglo-Franco Chunnel and now they're talking about toll hikes to pay for the gross negligence of the builders who, of they're smart, have already declared bankruptcy and have opened accounts in Cayman Island banks.
