Correction: For the Record

An article on Aug. 31 about the discovery of a mysterious chemical in an office at the United Nations referred incorrectly to phosgene, which officials initially identified as the chemical. Phosgene was used extensively during World War I as a choking agent; it is not a nerve-gas component. (The error was repeated in an article on Thursday about tests that indicated the substance was a commercial solvent.)
