A Veterans Day Tribute
A Soldier's Tear
A Veterans Day Tribute! What price I paid to grow to man, Now lay me buried beneath this land, From babe to gone - before my time, Cut down short - within my prime. Upon yon beach - we all ran forth, Into the fires - like a frightened moth, Our hearts did pound - our minds went blank, Was that rumble - a hostile tank? Beyond the walls - our targets lie, I feel a pain shoot through my thigh, I know I'm hit - but I must press on, Past the rocks - and barbed wire yon. My time has come - at last I fear, When roused anew by a muffled cheer, So again I charge - thru smoke and char, A ray of hope stabs from afar. No longer can I move my legs, My throat fill fast with bitter dregs, I gaze about - but one last time, Then close my eyes - to end this rhyme. H. Rick Tavares Copyright ©2009 H. Rick Tavares ----------------------------------------- Honoring Our Veterans Peace can never be truly achieved unless we are willing to recognize the sacrifices of those who bleed and perished to gain and perpetuate it! Happy Veterans' Day 11 November 2006! Rick Tavares Copyright ©2009 Rick Tavares ----------------------------------------------------- Ode To Our Troops In Combat - Past, Present & Future Rush me not into my grave, For I have dwelled among the brave, Beneath our flag may it ever wave, And keep my memory forever saved.. Henry R Tavares Copyright ©2009 Henry R Tavares -------------------------------------------- Real Patriots Are all real patriots Fated to die in wars Or are some destined to Remain behind to honor The memory of their fallen comrades? VN Vets - I called my Buddy in Lancaster, PA & later (read below)
Yesterday I called one of my Bud's from NAM.
- His name is Jere Morris (from Lancaster, PA) a great buddy of mine. His Dad was a Marine in WWII. I met his Dad 1-time many years ago - when I went to Jere's house for a quick visit and met his Dad. His Dad has since pasted away sometime ago now. - Like so many of the guys we served with - who have already gone to the great beyond. It's amazes us how quickly guys drop off sooner - than later - and we who still remain remember them to these very days as the years go by. - After our BS session on the phone - I went the VFW Post-6448 in Dyer, IN - to have a couple (yea right) brews. - And was shocked to here that one of our long time Veterans Wife's was hit by a semi and died the other day. Many of us were devastated and "all" will forever always remember - EVA. - She was a great woman and one with the most compassion - who cared about "all Vets" and her husband Joe. He had just recently undergone facial reconstruction. - She will be remembered mostly by her Family and those at our VFW Post 6448 in Dyer, IN. For all her hard work and her compassion - for all the Vet's. Our Hearts & Prayers go out to Her and her Husband Joe. - May she Rest In Peace - as she will always be remembered to all of us at our VFW Post 6448 - as will the many other's - to whom she cared for. She was a "One of a kind" - and may God Bless Her - and all other's like her. - Rest-In Peace - Eva; and to you Joe - my heart goes out to you for the your loss of your Wife "Eva". (Let's give her and all other's like her - a Moment of Silence). - Amen - Wayne - VFW Post-6448
