My Grandparents

What I know about Grandpa La Pointe is through stories told,
He died when my dad was only six years old.

Grandpa, a carpenter by trade,
earned his money building houses during the day.
Also employed at Ford Motors in Detroit,
he hurt himself bad while working one night.
The doctors in that era, without knowledge for proper care,
could not help him, leaving Grandma with burdens to bare.


Grandma La Pointe was all about fun. French Canadian; height 5 feet-1-one.
At 16 years old, she married Grandpa La Pointe, they left Canada, moved to Michigan, and settled in Detroit.
She raised five children, four boys and a girl.
Styling her hair, with the pin curl.

Grandma's schooling was through fourth grade.
And when Grandpa moved Grandma to the USA,
she taught herself English in an unusual way.
Listening to people on the radio,
she learned to pronounce words she did not know.

Entertaining she loved to do, for herself and other's too.
She baked, and canned many foods; and stored them up for party moods
She'd dance a jig , sing a song, and play the harmonica all evening long.
Always happy, always fun. Where Grandma was, a party begun.
Grandma is ever dear to my heart, when I think of her, my smile starts.

Tuesday 5:20pm unable to finish, because I drove Bob to Kaiser Hospital ER due to pneumonia illness. We returned home Wednesday Morning 1:30am, I finished the poem at 2:44am.
