GEN Shinseky is, was, and forever shall be, an idiot.
"Be All That You Can Be" was the number 2 jingle, right there next to the McDonalds jingle in advertising, when knucklehead changed it. :re:
That and the beret fiasco! What a crock o' crap that was/is.

Default An Army of one ---- BS

1IDVET I agree, Kind of like making the Army politically correct. OK so we will let everyone wear berets so there will be no one special. This army of one is a bunch of crap.

Grandfather, Dads side, never knew him, don't know what service but I doubt that he served at all.
Grandfather, Moms side; Prison guard, Sing-sing, worked late on the nights of executions in order to pull the switch, deferred for essential occupation status.
Dad; CAP, pilot instructor, never in armed forces.
Two oldest brothers; Air Force. Tommy just recently retired after thirty years. Spent time in VN, Saudi, Kuwait, all under Activated Reserve status. Last few years before retirement Tom worked for NASA at Cape Canaveral. Terry was dishonorably discharged for riding his Triumph MC through the barracks after Taps was sounded. Teddy (Col. Mark T. Romph) died fifteen years ago from Agent Orange poisoning. Was "Full-bird" and the XO of the Ohio Army Reserves. Airborne, Special Forces all the way. Served three tours VN and any other place that he could get into it. Billy, 3 years, Navy, 65-68, one tour, South China Sea, USS Black, Me, Army, 65-68, VN, 67-68, mostly REMF and target, med-evaced exactly on my DEROS date, separated 3 months later from Valley Forge Hospital on my ETS date.
Don't want an Army of One, when I was in every Troop was there for every other Troop.

Default "Air Force of One"...

...Contrary to one's own point of view...

......"The attitude of one equals the power of one"...

......From the breakdown in basic, and subsequent build up to "uniformity" of a squad, platoon, company, etc. , we are led to believe that teamwork will complete any, and all missions, and rightfully so, there is no I in team, but there is "m, and and e" , me, sometimes it's only me, and me is the only one you can depend on...

...Having been there from the perspective of only me before, I can somewhat relate to the "Army of one " motto, when there isn't anyone else around, and there is a job/misson that someone has to do, the American fighting soldier will always do what needs/has to be done by sheer conscience for the victory of good over evil...

...It was mentioned a short time back about the efforts of the American fighting men over in Vietnam how they never surrendered, and eachfought with the courage of a thousand men, and readily died before dishonor. A man from my City was awarded the "Medal of Honor" (posth.) from WWII, Cpl Frank Baker.(?) wounded, and rather then slow his company down saving him on Siapan, He chose to lean up against a tree with only a pistol, when he was found dead later, there were 8 dead enemy soldiers that lay next to him...

..."A Soldier is One" , is how it should read to me because I know what One Soldier can accomplish under fire., A thousand Soldiers is One, as One is One thousand...

...The days, and nights are many, but it is that one night that separates us from the thin line of life the masses follow.........

...
