Post Democrats Write Off ‘Crimes’ as ‘Mistakes’

Thursday, February 5, 2009 11:25 AM

By: Michael Reagan

You can’t help but wonder whether Democrats pay ever taxes. It seems from the headlines that the way the system works is that Democrats levy taxes, but only Republicans have to pay them.

For a president who said he was going to preside over the most ethical administration in history, Barack Obama has shown an astounding talent for being able to find appointees who mistakenly manage to forget to pay their taxes.

Just look at Timothy Geithner, for example. The new Treasury secretary — the man who oversees the IRS — forgot to pay $34,000 in taxes. Tom Daschle had to pay $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest after he learned he was going to be nominated as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, and he later withdrew from consideration. Obama’s appointee Nancy Killefer withdrew her candidacy to be the first “chief performance officer” for the federal government because she messed up paying payroll taxes on her household help.

Then there’s Charlie Rangel, head of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, who didn’t pay his taxes. And Al Franken, who might be a new Democratic senator from Minnesota thanks to the peculiar way they count votes in his state, didn’t pay his taxes, either. The congresswoman who was appointed to fill Hillary’s vacant seat in the Senate did not pay her taxes.

Not to worry, though. It appears that none of these people committed offenses. They merely made “mistakes.”

Speaking of Daschle, the president said: "Tom made a mistake, which he has openly acknowledged . . . He has not excused it, nor do I. But that mistake and this decision cannot diminish the many contributions Tom has made to this country."

No Democrats ever commit crimes. They merely make mistakes.

Not so with Republicans. If you tell a joke at the 100th birthday party of a retiring and dying senator, your career in the Senate will be in shambles, as Trent Lott discovered. If you’re a Democrat, however, well, you simply make a mistake when you do something wrong.

Democrats can do just about anything they want. They can avoid paying taxes, wrap $90,000 in bills in tinfoil and put in a freezer, and it’s written off as just another mistake.

Willie Sutton didn’t rob banks. He and John Dillinger simply made a lot of mistakes.

Funny, I haven’t heard anyone suggest that Dick Nixon’s actions in Watergate were simply mistakes. But then, Nixon was a Republican, and Republicans are not allowed to claim that their misdeeds were mistakes. That privilege is reserved for Democrats who get caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

When a Democrat stands before a judge after straying from the straight and narrow, you can expect that he will admit to having made a mistake and, what the heck, everybody makes mistakes. That’s why they put erasers on pencils.

When somebody asks why Barack Obama isn’t flying over storm-ravaged Kentucky the way they asked why George Bush why he didn’t fly over New Orleans after Katrina, you can bet his flunkies will say it was a mistake.

Here’s a tragedy where hundreds of thousands of people are shivering in frigid weather without electricity, and Barack Obama is hosting Super Bowl parties in the warm and comfy White House.

When George Bush didn’t go the New Orleans, it was seen as a crime of enormous proportions. When Barack Obama gives a party instead of giving aid and comfort to ice-stricken Kentuckians, it must be an oversight — a mistake.

How many more mistakes are we going to hear about as President Obama goes about picking nominees for top administration posts?

Make no mistake about it: If what we have seen so far is any indication, there will be other mistakes.

Default Griz,...

Re: Democrats write off 'Crimes' as 'Mistakes'

Such should surprise no one. That's what: "Democrat/Socialist/Leftist Supremacist Rulers
posing as Liberals" typically do and have historically done for years.

Whereas Republican/Conservative Leaders' honest: "Mistakes" are often falsely accused as;
"Crimes". Mainstream Press/Media & their Dem: "Darlings just won't have it any other way.

Such is Truly Sad for all We Americans & Democracy,...but true.

Default More Democrat 'Mistakes'

*$34,000*: the amount of federal taxes that Secretary of the Treasury
Timothy Geithner (D) failed to pay during his employment at the
International Monetary Fund despite receiving extra compensation and explanatory brochures that described his tax liabilities.

$75,000*: the amount of money that the head of the powerful tax-writing committee, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), was forced to report on his taxes after the discovery that he had not reported income from a Costa Rican rental property. His excuses for the failure started with blaming his wife, then his accountant and finally the fact that he didn't speak Spanish.

*$93,000*: the amount of petty cash each Congressional representative
voted to give themselves in January 2009 during the height of an economic meltdown.

*$133,900*: the amount Fannie Mae "invested" in Chris Dodd (D-CT), head of the powerful Senate Banking Committee, presumably to repeal oversight of the GSE prior to its meltdown. Said meltdown helped
touch off the current economic crisis. In only a few years time, Fannie
also "invested" over $105,000 in then-Senator Barack Obama.

*$140,000*: the amount of back taxes and interest that Cabinet nominee Tom Daschle (D) was forced to cough up after the vetting process
revealed significant, unexplained tax liabilities.

*$356,000*: the approximate amount of income and deductions that Daschle (D) was forced to report on his amended 2005 and 2007 tax returns after being caught cheating on his taxes. This includes $255,256 for the use of a car service, $83,333 in unreported income, and $14,963 in charitable contributions.

*$800,000*: the amount of "sweetheart" mortgages Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd (D-CT) received from Countrywide Financial
the details for which he has refused to release details despite months
of promises to do so. Countrywide was once the nation's largest mortgage lender and linked to Government-Sponsored Entities like Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac. Their meltdown precipitated the current financial crisis. Just days ago in Pennsylvania, Countrywide was forced to pay $150,000,000 in mortgage assistance following "a state investigation that concluded that
Countrywide relaxed its underwriting standards to sell risky loans to
consumers who did not understand them and could not afford them."

*$1,000,000*: the estimated amount of donations by Denise Rich, wife of fugitive Marc Rich, to Democrat interests and the William J. Clinton
Foundation in an apparent /quid pro quo/ deal that resulted in a pardon for Mr. Rich. The pardon was reviewed and blessed by Obama Attorney General and then Deputy AG Eric Holder, despite numerous requests by government officials to turn it down.

*$12,000,000*: the amount of TARP money provided to community bank
OneUnited despite the fact that it did not qualify for funds, and was "under attack from its regulators for allegations of poor lending practices and executive-pay abuses." It turns out that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), a key contributor to the Fannie Mae meltdown just happens to be married to one of the bank's ex-directors.

*$23,500,000*: The upper range of net worth Rep. Allan Mollohan (D-WV) accumulated in four years time according to /The Washington Post
through earmarks of "tens of millions of dollars to groups associated
with his own business partners."

*$2,000,000,000*: ($2 billion) the approximate amount of money that
House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-WI) is earmarking related to his son's lobbying efforts. Craig Obey is "a top lobbyist for the nonprofit group" that would receive a roughly $2 billion component of the "Stimulus" package.

*$3,700,000,000*: ($3.7 billion) not to be outdone, this is the
estimated value of various defense contracts awarded to a company
controlled by the husband of Rep. Diane Feinstein (D-CA).
Despite an obvious conflict-of-interest as "a member of the Military
Construction Appropriations subcommittee, Sen. Feinstein voted for
appropriations worth billions to her husband's firms.

*$4,190,000,000*: ($4.19 billion) the amount of money in the so-called
"Stimulus" package devoted to fraudulent voter registration ACORN group
under the auspices of "Community Stabilization Activities". ACORN is
currently the subject of a RICO suit in Ohio.

*$1,646,000,000,000* ($1.646 trillion): the approximate amount of annual United States exports endangered by the "Stimulus" package, which provides a "Buy American" stricture. According to international trade experts, a "US-EU trade war looms, which could result in a worldwide economic depression reminiscent of that touched off by the protectionist Smoot-Hawley Act

It's not just a culture of corruption. It's a culture of corruption /and/ stupidity. And, unlike Republicans, Democrats appear to be above the law. All of the aforementioned clowns are still in office, ruling
like the royalty they've become. [links to cites cheerfully provided for the doubters.]

Default Brice,...

WOW!!!,...Some truly disgusting Democrat corruptness typically passed off as: "Mistakes".

Still, how come Congressman Barney Franks didn't get a warranted Dishonorable Mention, also?
He has to be about the Biggest Blowhard U.S. Taxpayer Money Mismanager of The Lot.

Obama's only planning on pissin-away VA$T $UM$ Our Money. Sweet Barney ALREADY DID,
and amazingly is still in key position of pissin-away EVEN MORE! "ONLY in America"!
In any other country Barney Franks would've been hanged, by now. No doubt others, also.
