I am saddened for not only the loss of LCpl. Joshua Bernard but also for the pain that his father and family must now endure. A leadership more concerned with acceptable losses to our own military instead of inflicting the most damage on the enemy, where did we go so wrong ? It's bad enough that our politicians get us into wars and then abandon the military, more concerned with expediency instead of victory, but why oh why must out generals also subscribe to this same failed policy. If we learned nothing else from VietNam, I thought it was not to send our troops into harms way and then restrict their ability to fight and win. Safe havens exist for out current enemies and political expediency and body counts of civilians seem to take precedence over military objectives, just like it was dictated in VietNam by the political and civilian leadership of our country. Overly restrictive rules of engagement that quite frankly favor our enemy at the expense of our own troops safety, are something that I thought we all agreed was a formula for defeat, not victory. Has anything really changed ?
Rest in Peace LCpl. Joshua Bernard
