Sadly, what we used to celebrate as George Washington's birthday, or Abraham Lincoln's birthday, men of tried and true character, leadership and integrity, as genuine heroes of our past. It was a school holiday, and we knew why we were celebrating. Our past has been dumbed down, or worse, demonized, and so President's Day is nothing more than a trivialization of the office, and some of the great men who have served there.

Having said all that, without veterans, and the sacrifices they have made and continue to make even as we speak, we wouldn't even have a President's Day. And I don't like how even this holy day has been trivialized. I just came back from a ceremony where we honored all vets, from WWII onward to Iraq. My son, a vet from the Panama campaign, and my best friend, one of my troops from Vietnam tour #1 was there as I had the honor of introducing the guest speaker.
