Thumbs down More Corporate Welfare - Via H20

Some years back, our government initiated a program whereby farmers were paid (sometimes) huge sums not to grow certain products that government claimed to have a surplus of (Tell that to the hungry, many of them veterans)!

Well, this corporate brand of welfare (another trickle-down fiasco) is now being expanded to the domestic fishing industry! This time around, however, ?tis the fishing boat owners who are being paid millions to pull their boats from the briny, and stop taking cod, bass, etc. from what the Powers That Be claims to be overly fished waters!

Of course, this move will benefit the boat owners, but hardly the fishermen themselves! The guy on the net, or with the pole, will just have to find another line of work, says the government. Hey, they can always toss hamburgers for minimum wage, and occasionally they may still come into contact with sea food, in the form of a breaded fish sandwich, caught in Mexico or Indonesia no doubt!!

Historic and quaint places like Nantucket, San Diego, Chesapeak Bay, and the Florida Keys, may just become a thing of the past, and with it, the sea itself may turn it?s back on the brave gent in the slicker who earns his keep in the backyards of old Father Neptune!?

Of course, and our government has conveniently side-stepped the issue, foreign nations like Japan, China and Russia etc., will continue to take fish with no limits. Or does our government believe that American fish stick strictly to our own patriotic waters?!

?So what is the bottom line here?? Will other nations too, limit their catches? Will the price on seafood drop, as more and more of our people have to rely on imported finbacks? Will the quality of the catch, inspection of seafood imports, and even variety and numbers of fish caught, be vastly reduced as well!? Hell, before long, we could be paying caviar prices for smelts and carp!?

In my opinion, this has little (if anything) to do with conservation! It is just a vested way of gutting another industry that has supplied a good living for Americans for over two centuries! ?The beneficiaries - you?ve got it, the fishermen of foreign nations!!? And before long, even the air over our country could be taxed by the United Nations, who will claim (like the Soviets of old), that they owned it first!

Hey, who in the Hell does our government represent anyway? I would ask them, but I am afraid of the answer that I might get back?!

So beware - ?Big Brother May Be Watching You Through His All-Seeing Periscope?, and that dude is beginning to talk with a distinctively foreign accent!! (opinion)

The waste in the federal budget is far more insidious than you know. Did you know we are still paying companies in the USA hundreds of millions of dollars to advertise overseas ? What about the NPR subsidy ? Did you know the US government pays for a large portion of the daycare and transportation costs for federal civil service workers ? Did you know the federal government has no idea how many private contractors work for it or what their real cost to the government is ? ( and still want to convert many civil servoce jobs to this ? ) Have you noticed that the Senators and Congressmen never seem to get sick and die in office.....but seemingly live forever ? Same way with federal programs..there are many that were started in the Depression..possibly even WW1, that should have been terminated years ago....

A book I have that I have mentioned before is "Fat City : How Washington Wastes You Taxes", by Donald Lambro...it was written in 1980 and points out that the federal budget for 1981 is going to reach $ 616 billion dollars. In his book he lists 1100 Nonessential federal programs that could have easily saved $ 100 billion dollars in 1981 ( about 16 % ) with no negative effects. The federal budget now is over $ 2.3 trillion dollars ( almost a 400% increase in just 20 years !! ) . I suspect fully 20% could be cut will little problesm ( or $ 200+ billion dollars ).

Here is alist of frogotten agensices listed on page 32 -37 of Mr. Lambro's book in 1980. How many are still functioning. How much money have they spent during their existence ?

Annual Assay Commission
FDR Memorial Commission
Navajo and Hopi Indian Relocation Commission
Joint Mexican-United States Defense Commission
American Battle Monuments Commission
Overseas Private Investment Corp.
Office of Minority Business Enterprise
Office of International Affairs
Foreign Claims Settlement Commission
Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations
he lists 5 government committees for the Handicapped...
International Communications Agency

Many obscure government agencies perform tasks already performed by other agencies. And so it goes....ad infinitum.

Unhappy

LARRY -

And yet, some still attempt to rip apart what little bit that worthwhile programs accomplish! The sour note here is that we allow agencies like those you mentioned to continue to exist, while stripping what little remains of the lean from that which works!

"PORK BARREL, THY NAME BE GOVERNMENT!" And yes indeed, where is the conservatism in butchering the workable to continue to $upport dinosaurs!?

I fear that the agencies that you referenced Larry, are but the tip of the iceberg? How much good could be accomplished here at home with the money expended foolishly? And how many of the beneficiaries of vested kindness would return the favor to us, were the shoe upon the other foot (HONESTLY)? :cd:

Default WOW...Fellas!

You guys really know how to rub-it-in to: "We The (Schnooks)", The American Taxpayer, the vast majority and/or politically dictated to pay for everything in America (TOTALLY) fools!!! IT'S ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.

Granted, most everyone on earth wants a piece of what The American Taxpayer has by law taken from them every which way possible by The Government. Still, it is a shame that the greediest and most preferential or biasedly self/clique-serving of all in The World daily doing such,...are Fellow Americans.

Sure, most all American High Officials in government (elected or appointed), The Press/Media, Academe, and even The Courts see nothing wrong with such dictatorial behavior BY ANY GOVERNMENT. And, why should they? After all, in such a greatly preferential government all those alluded to fair quite well (hell-exceptionally well), and certainly much better than most average American Citizens in The Private Sector WILL EVER FAIR.

Damn,...and since NO ONE in The Public Sector ACTUALLY ever generates any revenues (government just prints the $tuff),...We Private Sector Taxpayer are truly some QUITE STUPID & QUITE GENEROUS FOOLS. Certainly not because We want to. But, and because by law FORCED TO.

Regardless, I personally don't see why America makes so much about its Free Speech, for whatever-the-hell-it's-worth, and especially if not a millionaire notable ACTUALLY having such.?

For me personally, I see absolutely no comparison to: "Liberty and Freedom" with The American Citizen/Taxpayer being FREE TO DO AS TOLD by politicos perpetually,...or SOCIALISTICALLY FORCED or DICTATED to pay for everything needed or un-needed in America and in The World.

Whatever, the aforementioned certainly doesn't depict a democracy. Such more so depicts a Socialist Dictatorship or just plain old dictatorship. Sure, our political dictatorship is and has always been quite benevolent to most everyone on earth (The American Private Sector Taxpayer excluded). But, so what?

Not being a foreigner, part of America's Officialdom and supportive Public Sector, Academe, The Courts or even The Press/Media,...I'm not content with The System. I would more prefer: "Liberty and Freedom" and "Escape from lordly rule",...and/or what Our Forefathers once envisioned long ago. Unfortunately, apparently such niceties just never came to be. We just ended-up with politcal lords instead the previous royal lords. Still, a lord is a lord, is a lord.

Vas thinks du...Fellow Rabble and/or Rabblerousers?
