The USS SLATER, DE 766 is docked , and open for tours on the Hudson river at Albany NY, and she is 100 % ready... ...During WWII, destroyer escorts battled nazi u-boats on the Norht Atlantic protecting convoys of men, and material. ...In the Pacific, they stood first in line to defend navel task forces from kamikaze attacks... ...The ship is undergoing a complete restoration... ...Tours include the crew's quarters, galley, pilot house,and bridge ward room, main gun, and antiaircraft batteries, and anti submarine weapons... ... http://www.ussslater.org ......took my son down today, but it was closed, open Wed. throught Sunday, took some pictures, and will send them to David to post up. ...can't imagine being on the North Atlantic on one of those........................

You've got to envy those guys and gals on the Tin Cans. In rough seas the rock and roll. We used to unrep those escorts when at sea and I can remember watching that crew awash with salt spray taking on supplies.
Well done to those who ride on these fighting ships.
