Was THUD what I called SPLASH. When I fired Arty they would say shot out when they fired and I would call them and say SPLASH when it hit. Good post David ! Got me thinking

El Tee,

The nickname "THUD" that I have in mind was the slang term for an F-105 Thunderchief.

"Fast Mover" also covers it.

I heard the nickname THUD a lot because I rigged the ejection seat chute for that aircraft. Have no idea where that name originated.

"Thud Jockey" or "Thud Driver" was, of course, an F-105 pilot.
