SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
November 1956 (Year of the Monkey [Binh Than]): A peasant revolt in North Vietnam over land reform, despite Ho Chi Minh's changes in the program earlier in the year, is put down brutally, with more than 6000 killed or deported.

November 1964 (Year of the Dragon [Giap Thin]) (US Advisory): Indonesia, having been censured by the UN for its aggression against Malaysia, seeks closer ties with Communist China. This is perceived as a threat by the Australian government.

November 13, 1965 (Year of the Snake [At Ti]) (US Defense): On operation with a CIDG company in Quang Ngai Province, Australian Adviser W02 Kevin "Dasher" Wheatley refuses to leave his wounded mate, W02 R J "Butch" Swanston and is killed. He is posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, Australia's highest honor and the highest British military decoration.

November 13, 1966 (Year of the Horse [Binh Ngo]) (US Counteroffensive Phase II): Operation Attleboro update: Companies A and B of the 1/5th Mech exploit a B52 strike in the area, while Company C secures the battalion base. An artillery battery is airlifted in to complete the establishment of Fire Support Base #1. No contact with the enemy is made that night.

November 13, 1966 1966 (Year of the Horse [Binh Ngo]) (US Counteroffensive Phase II): Company A, 1/14th of the 25th Infantry Division, is on a search and destroy operation (I'm not sure where or in which operation) when the lead platoon makes contact with the enemy and gets into a fierce fire-fight.

November 13, 1967 (Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): Operation MacArthur update: C/4/503 is released to its parent unit and the 1st Battalion reports four more MIA as a result of the November 11-12 contact. Task Force Black counts 51 NVA bodies, 18 individual weapons, and four machine guns, results of the November 11-12 contact.

November 13, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase VI): B/7/17th Cavalry provides flank security for reinforced infantry on the ground.

November 13, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase VI): 1 ATF begins Operation Capital, to destroy elements of the VC 84 Rear Services Group and 274 Regiment and to find and destroy enemy camps, caches and cultivation in the area east and northeast of Binh Gia. 26 enemy troops will be KIA during the 17-day operation, six WIA, and one will be captured. Camps and caches will be found and destroyed.

November 13, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase VI): LRRP Team Delta, 74th Infantry Detachment, 173rd Airborne, is in a defensive perimeter in Binh Dinh Province, reconning a network of enemy trails, when a team member hears enemy movement to the front.

November 13, 1969 (Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau]) (US Winter-Spring 1970): The NVA mounts the heaviest assault in a year against U. S. forces in the DMZ.

November 13, 1970 (Year of the Dog [Canh Tuat]) (US Counteroffensive Phase VII): An unarmed U. S. reconnaissance aircraft is shot down over North Vietnam.

POSTBELLUM:
November 13, 1982 (Year of the Dog [Nham Tuat]): More than 100,000 veterans of the Vietnam War gather at Washington, D.C., for the dedication of a memorial honoring the dead of that conflict.

November 1989 (Year of the Snake [Ky Ti]): Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Gareth Evans proposes that the Vietnam-backed government in Cambodia be dismantled and that country be placed under UN trusteeship. Evans and his deputy departmental head Costello engage in shuttle diplomacy in 1990, but at the same time the Khmer Rouge revives its activity.
