BLUEHAWK:
Quote:
For thousands of years civilized nations have tried, and usually failed, to install SOME kind of body whose purpose it is to serve as a buffer between warring states, between belligerance and cooperation. Some (most) simple human beings long for peace, an end to state-sponsored violence and thievery. Some (few) cannot seem to stop themselves from justifying killing and stealing.
If people want the U.N. out of our lives, then why not stop the bloodshed?

While you are absolutely correct in that "civilized" nations have attempted to bring about international civility, stopping the bloodshed has nothing to do with getting the UN out of our lives. Please check the UN's record, and see aside from the humanitarian departments, just what they have accomplished, or better yet been unable to accomplish. They are a paper tiger (no insult meant to tigers by the way)
