Olen was in the 129thfrom around Jan of 68 to june of 68. Before that he was in the 48th Avn Co from around March of 67 to jan of 68. He was a door gunner in both Co. There is alot of guys on there web site that served around that time I do believe. There web site is a very informative one.
It has been hard finding anyone who knew him. No one to be exact. The only thing I have found is an old friend of his who didn't know he had died. He had been in the 101st in Vietnam he said. It was very hard to talk with him because it upset him a great deal. Since I sent him the photos he requested i havn't heard back from him at all. Sometimes I think i'll never find anything but what if I do? |

Melody,
thanks for the come-back. It was a small war by some stardards, but a long one. Long enough for over a million guys to rotate through. Like you say, what if you do find someone that knew him? Still a real possibility. Your uncle was a brave man just for showing up for the war, let alone for volunteering for a more dangerous job when he didn't have to. There are some of us that just feels the need to see what it's like to dance with the Devil. Olen was one of these. Bless you for keeping his memory alive, and thank you for bringing him to our attention. He much deserves the recognition. Good luck in your search.

Thanks
You are right, Olen was that type. He always did anything he could to temp fate. You should of seen his driving :ek:
Olen had alot of problems, the usual thing I guess but he took it to the extremes and let it kill him. Even with those problems he was the kindest person i knew. I saw him many times actually giving someone his shirt shoes and whatever he could....even when he had next to nothing. There are so many that don't get recognition and they all deserve better than what they got and some still get today. |

I was looking at fuel haulers from a transportation point of view.... Their job really sucked even though they did get the most protection. When we would assemble for a convoy we would cringe when we saw the fuel trucks arrive. Most of our convoys were joiint efforts from many transportation and engineering companys Bob K
